SUNDAY, AUGUST 1, 2010: HUIS EMILY HOBHOUSE ASSISTIVE LIVING CENTER

Today was our official first day of working in the field.  We started the day by picking up Brent, the audiologist/speech language pathologist from the Sasleborg hospital.  Brent is the audiologist/speech language pathologist for his territory.

Luckily our 8th team member arrived in South Africa after waiting at Dulles International for two days to get a flight out.

We were all very excited to see that she arrived at the Huis Emily Hobhouse assistive living center where we were providing otoscopic examinations, cerumen management, tymponometry, audiometric testing, and fitting individuals with hearing aids as needed.ف Twenty individuals were tested, eight individuals were dispensed new hearing aids, and several hearing aid modifications and checks were completed for those who had already been dispensed hearing aids in 2007.

After completing our day at the assistive living center we purchased food from a grocery store in Pyris, a small town outside the area where we were staying. فAll of us were exhausted but enjoyed having dinner together and getting to know one another.
